Mt. Kilimanjaro

The Longonot Crater mountain is a dead volcanic situated deeply in the middle on Great Rift Valley. The brooding hulk of the Mountain is lined with spectacular fissures and laval canyons. Its vast crater is an awesome sight, the jagged edge surrounding a broad expanse of vegetation, as you climb these slopes you pass through herds of grazing game as spectacular views of the Rift Valley and Naivasha unfold below. Geothermal steam trickles upwards from the walls, while buffalo and other game make their way across the crater floor. From crater you can see most of the rift valley lakes from the nearby Lake Naivasha, Nakuru, Lake Bogoria, Lake Baringo and Lake Natron at the border of Tanzania/ Kenya. On clear weather you can also see Kilimanjaro and Cherangani hills

1 Day Mt. Longonot Hiking

Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta In ternational Airport you will be received by our driver guide who will brief you on your hiking of Mt. Longonot while you have breakfast. After breakfast depart for the Longonot Crater Mountain at around 8.00am. Drive through the amazing land of milk and honey to the view point of the Great Rift Valley where we stop briefly. We proceed down the escarpment into the Rift Valley to the base of Mount Longonot. Prepare for the climbing to the highest peak (3321 meters) above the sea level. Walk around the crater rim then proceed into the crater, have picnic lunch, climb out of the crater depart for Nairobi arriving approximately at 4 pm – 5 pm.

1 Day Nairobi- Mt. Longonot 

Depart Nairobi in the morning and head around 90  Kilometres North, stopping for views over the Great Rift Valley. Proceed down the escarpment, which is the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley, onto the floor of this great gorge and head toward Mount Longonot, just south of Lake Naivasha.

You start the hike from the main gate of the National Park, hiking vertically up the dormant volcano, rising over 630 metres to the rim of the crater at 2776 metres above sea level. The walk is very steep and craggy in parts and a trek encircling the rim and back to the gate is around nine kilometres. 

From the rim, there are spectacular views into the crater as well as the surrounding landscape taking in Lake Naivasha, open plains, towns and small villages. The crater floor is carpeted by a forest of trees which is home to all sorts of wildlife including Zebra, Giraffe, Buffalo and Hartebeest.
