4 days Kenya Birding Tour

Day 1. Nairobi –Maasai Mara Game Reserve

You will be picked by our guide from your Nairobi hotel after breakfast and drive through the spectacular Great Rift Valley with a stop-over at the view point en-route to Maasai Mara. Arrive on time for lunch in your lodge or tented camp. Maasai Mara is world famous for the annual great wildebeest migration that takes place in July and August where close to a million wildebeest close the Mara River in search of pasture. After lunch our guide will take you for your first game drive, you will be surprised by the high concentration of wild animals in this reserve. Here herds of elephants roam freely, wildebeest, buffalos, impalas, Thomson’s gazelles and Zebras graze in their numbers. Big cats are not hard to spot either including the elusive leopard, it is one of the few place you are guaranteed to spot the famous Big Five (elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard and lion) on a single morning or afternoon. Return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2. Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Spend the entire day exploring this world famous game reserve. This reserve is not only the most popular game reserve in the country, it is probably why people visit Kenya. The reserve is set on a classic African savannah and the huge density of wildlife is astounding. Zebras, wildebeest and gazelles graze in large herds and as a matter of fact where prey is in plenty so are the predators. The reserve covers an area of approximately 1510 sq km of open grassland waters by the Mara River and Talek which is a tributary of the former. Here it is very common to see the big cats hunting; they are also in their numbers. The leopard is the hardest to spot of the famous Big Five, but in Mara it not as hard to see it relaxing on a tree. Hippos, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes also exist in large numbers. Return to the camp for overnight

Day 3. Maasai Mara –Lake Nakuru National Park

Have an early game drive where you will further explore the game reserve at sunrise which is the best time to spot animals. Return to your camp for breakfast after which you will depart for the famous Lake Nakuru National Park. Our guide will drive you through the scenic Rift Valley escarpment arriving on time for lunch in your camp or lodge. Proceed for an late afternoon game drive to 18:30 hours. This park is home to eye-catching flocks of the Greater and lesser flamingos which color the shores of the lake pink. The park has the highest concentration of birds with over 450 bird species recorded here which include pelicans, egrets, plovers and storks. It is also one of the few places that you will see the endangered black and white rhino as well as the Rothschild giraffe. Return to your camp or lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
